I remember the first time I discovered CTRL-Z on a computer. After years of using a typewriter and white-out, it felt revolutionary. (Anyone else remember this revolutionary transition?) One simple keystroke and—poof!—my mistake was gone. I couldn’t believe the freedom that came with knowing I could start again with just a tap of two fingers. If only life were that simple.
James R. Sherman says, “Though no one can go back and make a brand-new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand-new ending.
This Easter, as we reflect on the ultimate do-over that the cross offers, I want to share a piece of my journey—one marked by pain, loss, forgiveness… and grace.
In Chapter 2 of Contagious Courage, I talk about “CTRL-Z”—my deep longing for a do-over after miscarriage, denial, and disappointment. But here’s the truth I learned:
There may not be a real-life undo button, but God offers something better—redemption. He takes the messiest, most broken places and makes something beautiful.
A Divine Do-over
I can’t count how many times I’ve wished for a CTRL-Z in real life—words I’ve said, choices I made, or seasons I’d rather erase altogether. One of the most defining moments in my life, came when my husband and I lost a pregnancy—twins we never got to meet. The grief, the silence, the denial…it all left a deep imprint on my soul.
But healing didn’t come from pretending nothing happened. It came when we allowed God into the broken parts of our story. Slowly, through grace, time, and the support of loved ones, I began to understand:
We may not get an instant do-over—but with God, we get restoration.
Romans 8:28 reminds us:
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
All things. Even the things we wish we could undo.
That’s what Easter is all about, isn’t it?
A divine do-over.
The cross wasn’t just a symbol of death—it was the beginning of new life. It was Jesus saying, “I’ll take all your sin, shame, pain and regret—and exchange it for grace, forgiveness, and purpose.”
GOOD NEWS
Are you looking for that kind of reset that in your life?
The good news? You don’t have to be perfect to begin again.
You just have to be willing to trust the One who makes all things new.
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Friend, your story isn’t over.
Your past doesn’t disqualify you.
And your pain isn’t wasted.
- If you’ve ever needed a reset…
- If you’re carrying a story you don’t talk about…
- If you’re longing for freedom but feel stuck in shame or sorrow…
THERE IS HOPE
Not because of who we are, but because of what He did.
- You don’t have to stay stuck.
- You can start again.
- Because Easter reminds us: do-overs are possible.
- Watch Chapter 2: “CTRL-Z” and let’s talk about your own do-over—and how faith, obedience, and discipline can move you toward healing and freedom.
