Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from it. But what happens when all a child has known is abuse and trauma?
Today my guest is a parent, who was once that child. Raised in foster care, and suffered great trauma, yet despite her own upbringing, her life is the evidence, that you can overcome a traumatic past and create an amazing new future.
Sally J. King is an amazing woman, mother, and wife. She is an adult adoptee from the foster system and has a passion for foster and adoptive kids. Her goal is to change the trajectory of foster kids lives by raising awareness.
Sally states, “Foster and adoptive parents are not provided with the right tools to truly facilitate change and resilience in these kids.”
Being being a foster kid herself and knowing her own struggles, Sally has left no stone unturned in order to help her adopted foster child “Serenity” truly thrive. And in the process, was able to heal herself and understand that your start in life does not define your future.
Two important lessons sally has discovered in her journey to healing is this;
“Lead with love”
&
“Forgiveness is giving up the hope of a better past.”
